Malaysia comprises Peninsular Malaysia and the states of Sabah and Sarawak on the island of Borneo.

Located 7 degrees north of the Equator. Malaysia’s neighbours are Brunei, Thailand, the Philippines, Singapore and Indonesia.

336,700 sq. km (Peninsular Malaysia covers 134,680 sq. km and Sabah and Sarawak 202,020 sq. km).
The country comprises 13 states, namely Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Perak, Pulau Pinang, Kedah, Perlis, Terengganu, and Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak. The three Federal Territories are Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.
Highest mountain in Malaysia:
Gunung Kinabalu (4,100m).
The Government
The Government is an alliance of parties representing different racial groups, and is headed by the Prime Minister and members if his cabinet.
Monarchy
The Supreme Head of State is Yang Di Pertuan Agong (The King). He is a constitutional monarch elected for a term of 5 years by his fellow rulers from the others states.
Capital City
Kuala Lumpur (or KL). Founded in 1850’s.

Putrajaya. Built in early 1990’s.

Bahasa Melayu (official), English, Chinese dialects (Cantonese, Mandarin, Hokkien, Hakka, Hainan, Foochow), Indian dialects (Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi). In East Malaysia several indigenous languages are spoken, the largest of which are Iban and Kadazan.
Religion
Islam is the official religion but the constitution guarantees the right of people of practice other religions.
